Hello!

I recently have been on the hunt for a related links plugin. Yours does *almost* what I want it to do. I love what it does on the front end – I've plugged it into a widget for my blog posts so I can display links of interest per post – which is what I love about it – that I have control over what links are displayed on a post-by-post basis.

What I'd like for it to do is – instead of me having to manually enter the html in the text boxes for each link – is provide a list of all of the links I have stored in my blog ( through the links section, below posts), and allow me to just check mark up the limit set in the options page for each link. That way if I have links I want to re-use, they're already in the system.

I've been looking through the code on your plugin, and I'm feeling like it's a little too complicated for me to take on, on my own. I'm a graphic designer, with only cursory programming skills (enough to style a website). What are the chances you might look into this?

Love the work you've done – I'm going to install the Efficient Related Posts plugin as well!

Thanks,

Dan

I think I explained this poorly.

Here's a summarized version of what I was saying:

Love what you're doing. Manual Related is Great. Going to use Efficient Related Posts as well. Thanks for the hard work.

Would it be possible to use info from the 'Links' area instead of manually entering the links? i.e. A list of all the links is displayed with a checkbox beside each one, and the checked links would be added for that post – that way if a link can be used multiple times, it's easy to reselect it for each post.

Thanks,

Dan

That seems like a strange use of the "links" section of WordPress (which is actually more for blogroll style lists of links), but it's not a bad idea.  I'll add it to a list of possible TODOs for the plugin and talk to a few other people to see what they think of the idea.

Upset at my slow responses recently? Please read my explanation.

It's strange that you say that – but it makes all kinds of sense as to why there aren't more link-related plugins.  I don't think I've ever used the links segment of the back-end as a 'blogroll' (I don't even like the term blogroll) – Being that there are link categories and different ways of styling, describing and linking them, I've always used it as a resource storage area. Maybe it's me being dumb about it – or maybe this is a really under-utilized area of wordpress. I'd be surprised if I'm the only one wanting to use it like this.

One of the original designs of my webcomic site (http://www.noreasoncomics.com) had a page that was devoted to linking to all of the comics that I read online – when I kept it up, I know several people used it as their bookmark list for comics. (Which is strange too – you have bookmarks in your browser….)

If you look at my blog/portfolio (still finishing it off) you'll see how I'm using it here: http://march1studios.com/2009/…..llo-world/

The section marked 'Worth Checking Out' in the sidebar is where the related-links function is being pulled in. It took very little work to get it to do what I wanted to do, so I'm really happy with it. The only problem I see is the continuing work with new blog posts in having to re-enter the html for each link manually (I know, it's in the name of the plugin).

So again – thank you for the plugin. I hope it does get added in!
