Okay, what if I want to manually assign the related posts (or further reading) on a specific post so that I don't want the related posts to be added?

Is there a way to do this by post?

You can't exclude certain posts.  You could however switch to using the shortcode instead of having the plugin automattically append the related posts.  If you do that, you could add the shortcode to the end of each post you want them to display on and just not add it to ones you don't.
